10 Great Movie Lines

UPDATE:The answers are below in the comments.

Here’s a quiz. Can you guess which movies these quotes came from? There are a few easy ones, but maybe some you don’t remember.

  1. “You make me want to be a better man.”
  2. “Just set the damn cake on fire.”
  3. “You are not in Kansas anymore. You are on Pandora, ladies and gentlemen.”
  4. “Honey, you are changing that boy’s life.”  “No, he is changing mine.”
  5. “So shines a good deed in a weary world.”
  6. “If you need more ask me, I’m VERY rich. I bought Intel at six.”
  7. “I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is.”
  8. “Well, what if there is no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today.”
  9. “Why can’t a woman be more like a man?”
  10. “Where we’re going we don’t need roads.”

I’ll confirm the answers in a couple of days. What’s your favorite movie line?

  1. Daryl says:

Boy I am only sure about two of those — 3 and 9.

  2. Don says:

    5 is WWATCF

    I’ve heard 7, 8, and 10 but can’t place them.

  3. Don says:

Oh yeah, 3 is from a very recent movie that we saw a few months ago.

  4. Don says:

Ok, 7 is FG, 8 is GD, 10 is BTTF.

  5. Donna says:

I predict #2 will be the biggest stumper, but it was a movie I loved and watched many times.

  6. Richard says:

I guess there must be something wrong with me. I often hear or read quotes from movies and just don’t get it. I never remember lines from movies, nor usually who played in them. Except for a very few I don’t remember who directed or produced many either. Maybe it is because we don’t watch many movies, or perhaps just the way my brain is wired. Kinda strange since I enjoy trivia, but movie stuff just dosesn’t stick in my brain. Regardless, except for number 3 which we just recently watched for the second time, I have absolutely no idea.

  7. Dale says:

I’m with Dick on this. The sad thing is I’m no good at any kind of trivia either. I know about four without google – (Don). The other ones must be chick-flicks.

  8. Daryl says:

I bet you guys can guess the very famous ones: “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn!”, and “We’re not in Kansas anymore” (the original), and “We’re going to need a bigger boat.”, and “We don’t need no stinking badges.” and “Play it Sam, play ‘As Time Goes By'”.

  9. Richard says:

I know “Frankly…” and “Kansas….”, but I don’t know the others. See, I told you I don’t remember these things. Probably related to the reason I don’t do well at literature category questions in Trivial Pursuit.

  10. Donna says:

I don’t know “We don’t need no stinking badges.” Is that a guy flick?

A couple of the ones in my list are chick flicks, but I bet you have seen most of them. The second most recent movie (after #3) is #4. It’s based on a true story.

  11. Heather says:

“There’s no crying in baseball!” — Love this quote and tweak it to whatever my situation is.

    I know #4 (BS)

  12. Alice says:

I agree with Richard too. Can’t remember quotes but do remember #4 (after I googled it!) – my favorite movie.

One of the “cutest” quotes that I remember from many years ago – ________ told her date at the beginning of the evening: “In case I forget to tell you later, I had a really good time tonight.”

  13. Donna says:

Alice, I thought Antwone Fisher was your favorite movie. 😉 Yes, that quote is from Pretty Woman (Julia Roberts as Vivienne). I wanted a good quote from that movie, but forgot that line. All I could find on the movie quote sites were “Cinder-****ing-rella” and I hate that one. 😛

  14. Daryl says:

“We don’t need no stinking badges” was from “Treasure of the Sierra Madre”, one of Humphrey Bogart’s best movies. I hear this line all the time, as a joke, like when people tried to go into Intel without a badge.

And “Play it Sam” was from Casablanca, Bogart’s best movie, and some say the best movie ever, though that would get a lot of arguments.

And “We’re going to need a bigger boat” was from Jaws (what else?).

  15. Donna says:

Daryl, I never saw that movie nor ever heard that line, even when I was at Intel. But I kind of love it now.

I know #6 wasn’t a stand out quote, but in 1998 I worked for Intel and stock was over $50 a share and I loved this line at that time.
    Here are the answers:

    1. “You make me want to be a better man.” ( Jack Nicholson as Melvin Udall in “As Good As It Gets”)

    2. “Just set the damn cake on fire.” (James Garner as Murphy Jones in “Murphy’s Romance”)

    3. “You are not in Kansas anymore. You are on Pandora, ladies and gentlemen.” (Stephen Lang as Col Quaritch in “Avatar”)

    4. “Honey, you are changing that boy’s life.” “No, he is changing mine.” (Tim McGraw & Sandra Bulloch as Sean & Leigh Ann Touhy in “The Blind Side”)

    5. “So shines a good deed in a weary world.” (Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”)

    6. “If you need more ask me, I’m VERY rich. I bought Intel at six.” (Jean Stapleton as Birdie Conrad in “You’ve Got Mail”)

    7. “I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is.” (Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump in “Forrest Gump”)

    8. “Well, what if there is no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today.” (Bill Murray as Phil Connors in “Groundhog Day”)

    9. “Why can’t a woman be more like a man?” (Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins in “My Fair Lady”)

    10. “Where we’re going we don’t need roads.” (Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown in “Back to the Future”)

  16. Don says:

And who can forget “I’ll be Bach” as said in almost every movie by the Governator? I could never figure out why he wanted to be a dead composer.

  17. Daryl says:

Murphy’s Romance?? I thought we were dealing with mainstream movies, not the Hallmark channel. 😉

“As Good as it Gets” was a little better known, but the quote doesn’t seem very memorable. Maybe it’s a woman thing.

On the other hand the Groundhog Day quote was perfect in retrospect. What other movie could it have come from?

  18. Alice says:

Anton Fisher is one of my all-time favorites. Really, my most favorite movie ever is Brian’s Song. One of my favorite lines was after Brian Piccolo finds out that Gale Sayers donated blood to him, Brian said “I’ve had a craving for chitlins.”

  19. Don says:

Waiting for your next 10 things Donna. I really liked the movie lines. What’s next?

  20. Donna says:

My blog is getting hit with constant spam that even Aksimet is not catching, so I’m going to turn comments off for this post.
