This is another recipe that has been in our family for years. Mom said it came from “Mitch somebody” in Cuba. We make them every year at Christmastime.

2 C sugar
1 t. soda
1 C buttermilk
pinch salt
Cook 5 minutes in large kettle. Add:
2 T butter
2 1/3 C pecans
Cook, stirring constantly to soft ball (234°). Beat until thick. Drop quickly by teaspoonfuls on aluminum foil.
