Dianna Cutlip gave me this one. I’ve always loved the way the recipe calls for “rubbing together” the ingredients for topping.
¾ C soft butter
2 C flour
1 C sugar
Rub together until it’s crumbly. Take a cup of it aside. To the rest, add:
1 egg
1 C sour milk (add 1 tsp vinegar to fresh milk and let set for several minutes)
2 tsp soda
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
Mix all ingredients and pour into greased 9” pan. Take remaining crumbs and sprinkle on top. Bake 35 minutes at 375°.
