Spritz Cookies

I think people think Spritz cookies are difficult, but they are are amazingly easy. I made them every Christmas when the family was around; now I make them once in a while. My recipe is from a cookbook series Mom got me for a wedding present.

1 ½ C butter
1 C sugar
1 egg
2 T milk
1 tsp vanilla
½ tsp almond extract, optional
4 C flour
1 tsp baking powder

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg, vanilla and almond extract. Sift together flour and baking powder and add slowly to creamed mixture, mixing to a smooth dough. Force dough through a cookie press onto ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with colored sugar, if desired. Bake at 400° for 7-8 minutes. Cool.
