Sound of Music Sing-A-Long

I saw the Sound of Music last night for the second time in a theater. The first time was in 1965, the year it was released, and that was my second time in an indoor theater in my life (Swiss Family Robinson was the first). Last night’s event was a sing-a-long, with the words to every song printed at the bottom of the screen karaoke style.  There were 30 Facebook friends as well as about 30 other “singers” in the audience, and we had a blast singing along to every song. I had the album (yes, a vinyl 33rpm ALBUM) when I was a girl – I still have it – and I knew all the words to all the songs. (Well, I admit, I didn’t know the Latin words to the nun’s morning hymn, nor could I ever get all the words to The Lonely Goatherd).

I think this post can turn into a list of 10. Here’s 10 songs from The Sound of Music:

  1. The Sound of Music
  2. How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria
  3. I Have Confidence
  4. Sixteen Going on Seventeen
  5. My Favorite Things
  6. The Lonely Goatherd
  7. Do-Re-Mi
  8. Something Good
  9. So Long, Farewell
  10. Edelweiss
  11. Climb Every Mountain

Whoops, it’s a list of 11. Just couldn’t stop myself.

And 11 great songs I might add.

  2. Daryl says:

That reminds me that we used to see movies in drive-in theaters. An indoor theater was something special in those days.

Now it’s hard to find any drive-in theaters.

  3. Donna says:

I was thinking the same thing, Daryl. I would love for the drive-ins to come back as a safe option on a nice evening. There is one drive in theater here in the Valley, but I’m not sure I would go to it unless I was with a big crowd.

  4. Dale says:

I wonder if Mom and Dad took us to driveins because it was easier than trying to rule a mob of kids in a theater.

  5. Donna says:

I think it was because it cost a few dollars for the whole carload, but an indoor theater charged for every seat. We were not wealthy, remember.
