Nostalgia

Brian and Carrie got me a pretty cool gift for Mother’s Day. We had a cotton candy machine when I was a kid. I’ve been wanting one for when the grandkids came over. I tried it out tonight, and have two pink clouds all made and set aside for Lauren and Nathan tomorrow. (They come to my house on Mondays for one of Lauren’s therapies.) I tried the first cone myself and it was de-lish!

I remember that machine well. I used to like cleaning out the inside and eaing the sugar. I also remember it was a pain to clean. Is this one any better?

Hey! That cotton candy machine was my Christmas present one year (’60?).

It was a pain to clean. Melted, hardened sugar forms a pretty hard shell.

This one is a breeze to clean. Everything comes apart, and any piece that gets sugar coated is immersible. I soaked them clean in a short while. Pretty cool!

Carrie reported this morning that Lauren loved the cotton candy, but Nathan wasn’t so sure. It does have a funny texture, you know.

Those are lot’s of fun. We bought one many years ago and I think Dayna still has it. We have not used it for many years.

When we lived in New Mexico we went to the state fair every year. In the sheep barn you could get three sizes of cotton candy. The $1 size was larger than any other stand at the fair. The $2 size (which we normally got) was enough for 2-3 people to get sick on. And if you ordered the $3 size you had to tell them when to quit piling it on. You had to take it out the side door because it would not fit through the open window with all the wisps hanging from it.

The sheep barn was an annual stop for my family! Enjoy yours, and keep it handy for when we stop by.

Some of you don’t know what happened to “our” first one. Long after most of you had left home–in fact, it may have been when the Croys moved to their new home, Barb told me that it was discovered under Danny’s bed. All those wasted years when we could have had “sugar highs”!

  6. Don says:

I wonder who could have left it over there? I suspect it was Donna. 😉

  7. Donna says:

Rats! I thought no one would ever know.

I guess this shows how often Barbara Croy cleaned under the beds!
