Going Solar!

I’m going solar. I signed on the dotted line today (actually, it was an electronic signature), and panels will be installed on my “PERFECT” roof sometime in July. It’s perfect because the back of my house faces directly south with no obstructions, other than an errant palm branch or two, which I can trim back.

Daryl helped me A LOT by sitting in on the consultations, going over the bids with me and helping me choose the supplier. I’m very glad he was here, because he knew all the right questions to ask. I’ve sure learned a lot over the last two weeks, and now I’m excited to get the show on the road.

I’ll post more about the system I’m having installed in upcoming weeks and months.

  1. Richard says:

Sounds like a good move. Are you going with a purchased or leased system? How many watts?

  2. Don says:

Good for you! I’m sure you’ll be an expert in no time and saving money to boot.

  3. Donna says:

I choose a prepaid lease (20 years), 33 245W panels which will provide 8 kWh. I should recoup my investment in ~8 years.

  4. Daryl says:

You will have slightly more than I have in a smaller house. You should come close to eliminating your electric bill, other than the set fees.

My only regret is that I didn’t add more panels. It’s much more expensive to add on later.

  5. Dale says:

It really helps having expert solar techs in this family for us beginners!

    • Donna says:

I don’t know Dale; seems like you are more of an expert than me. After all, you went solar several months ago! I will be asking you questions over the course of my installation, so study up!

  6. Daryl says:

Richard is the real expert — he is the only one who designed and installed his own system. I just paid someone else to do it, and Dale had Richard’s help.

  7. Don says:

I’ve had some pretty bad sunburns, does that count?
